Dennis is home from Silver Bay and had a great and safe trip. The 46 degrees this morning was a bit chilly, but the sunshine sure helps it feel bright and gives energy to the day. Today was head down and sometimes butt sticking up in the air as the bedroom closet was tidied from head to foot. Dennis even got in to the project. Some items hit the donate box and some things such as my variety of arm slings and Dennis’ suspenders were tucked back into the “might need these sometime” box. It must be in the blood that the fall season also means time to clean and sort.

Options must be kept open. After a bit of Saturday house work, Dennis and I hit the yard work. There is no way we could complain about mowing the grass as it is lush and beautiful for this time of year. I knew I could either rake off the front yard of heavy grass clippings or . . . I could try out attaching the bag for grass clippings. In all my years I had never worked a lawnmower with the bag attachment.
Dennis made a few modifications on the mower and showed me how to attach and detach the bag. After a show of moral support with a pat on the butt, he headed for the east yards on his rider.
I was very pleased as to how the yard looked after each swat. The downfall I would have to say is that the mower had to be shut down each time I had to empty the bag, and that was quite often. On the up side, thankfully the mower does start with one pull.
Here it is, the middle of the afternoon and we are cleaned up and ready to work at a VFW event from four through eight this evening. A full day, but a very rewarding day. There will be some windows cracked in the house this evening for lots of fresh air to assure a sound night’s sleep.

Nothing warms up a chilly early fall day like a good ole Minnesota hot dish in the oven for supper. The laundry is cranking out an extra blanket as I know Dennis will be rattling the bedroom cupboard this evening for that “just one more layer.” Who knew it would be time to begin the bartering season of extra blankets versus turning on the furnace?

The temperatures are cool today and it was a great day to run some errands with Dennis. After burning a lot of shoe leather in Mankato for some simple items at various locations, we came home without. There is the reason why Internet ordering may be on the rise. I need coffee, and I will take what is left of the morning coffee . . . even if it is cold.

Not a lot of activity on Stauffer Avenue today. After a good workout at the Super 8 pool this morning, Dennis and I both took time to check our eyelids for cracks. A nap during the day . . . it’s a good thing.

It was something about cleaning off the spark plugs that prompted Dennis to invite me for a drive in the 1966 Ford Galaxie. What are the chances of literally finding two people to visit with in the wide open spaces of the highway? A short visit and Dennis and I headed back home. We arrived home with the full moon as our chaperon. Super sweet.

I had a two hundred mile road trip today to pay respects to the family of my aunt Elsie Riebe. Visiting with cousins never gets old. We find we have more in common than not . . . and that is love of family ties.

We are making headways
Our tree hugging cat had four kittens earlier.
One has survived and today when Dennis was out
in the garage porch, the kitten decided to come
in the porch and try out the chair. Hopefully, before
cold weather hits, we will have it friendly enough
to get it to the vet clinic and perhaps a new
addition to the garage porch. -

The house is quiet and all evidence of a six year old being here is gone. Excuse me, that is a 6 1/2 year old. Nicholas is always eager to point that out. He was as good as gold and he felt really proud that he could sleep out in the living room on the pull out sofa rather than an old ordinary bed. To him that was a huge step up.
Nicholas wanted to play Solitaire on the dining room table, but the cards I had were so slippery the columns of cards would not stay in place. We headed for my laptop computer. He did great and soon was placing cards like an old timer . . . though not too pleased as to how hard it was to win a game. When he and Grandpa were busy, I opened up and figured out how to play the Spider Man Solitaire on the computer. That he really enjoyed as the possibility to win was doable. He wanted to know how hard it would be to download that to his mom’s computer and how expensive it was to buy the program. I pointed out that most computers come loaded with free games and these two would be included. I am sure his mom will be sharing.
Yes, these visits are priceless and are coming way too seldom as the kids are getting into extra activities. Dennis is quick to point out that the memories of times past will always be there to revisit. Gotta love that logical ole cowboy.

My head is thumping. Nicholas has been schooling me in the art of football. Oh my gosh, it’s just so much jabber jawing and it’s worse than when Nicholas explained Star Wars to me. We had a mock football field that we made and after so long I waved my player’s hands in the air and I said “I give up, please don’t knock me down anymore.” According to Nicholas, one day he is going to play pro as a quarterback. I did ask him why the position was called “quarterback.” His big blue eyes looked at me and he wanted to know why I would make things difficult. “Grammie, just play the game.” Grandpa has taken over.
