This morning the heavy April snow was expected but the amount was still a surprise.  Dennis opted to let the snow go just as it had come – one hour at a time as the sun came out this afternoon.  It still is covering the back yards but the hard surface of the concrete drive is bare and dry in spots.  If memory serves me last April the amount of snow was close to 15-17 inches.  I vote that this be the last.  I am getting itchy to be out in the yards peering into the soil for the first of the perennials to poke through.  They have rested enough.

Today was catch-up day after a whirl wind of activities with Granddaughter Megan during the time she was here during her spring school break.  The Swifer picked up lots of threads from the sewing machines that somehow had escaped the waste basket.  Odds and ends of fabrics were put back into their respective colored totes until the next great project unfolds.  For this Grammie I am going to go back to working on the “forgotten attic afghan.”  As long as we are experiencing cool weather I am more likely to endure the afghan as it becomes larger and heavier as more yarn is spun into it than the warmer spring temps that are bound to come sooner or later. Catch ya later.

This is going to be short and sweet as grand daughter Megan is here to share some of her spring break with us.  We got home about four and we have been making up for lost time.  Grandpa Dennis made supper and also did the dishes.  The sweetest thing was having Megan and Grandpa sing Happy Birthday to me before we shared cupcakes.  Megan and I agreed that no good cupcake is not without a few crumbs to enjoy dabbing them up with our fingers.  I have been told that since tomorrow is my birthday I get to sleep in.  Catch ya all later.

This morning I ignored seeking out what the temperature was outside.  In total bliss I did what I enjoy doing when I have my first cup of coffee and have missed doing so. Cup in hand and clothed in my robe I walked out onto the patio and beyond seeing what my backyard had to offer.  I had not done that since sometime in the late fall or early winter.  It was important to stay upright on my two feet and I had given in to snow and ice.  Since what seemed to be forever I had depended on the view from my bathroom window to keep an eye on the yard to the east.  Today set the precedence for all the tomorrows of this spring.  On my way back to the house to get a refill of coffee I realized that all that had been a puddle yesterday afternoon was now thick with ice.  So be it — I’m back!

    Fleeting Thoughts:

Not too much time for thoughts.  The sound of pitter patter made me dash to check the down spouts on the house. The thawing of the snow went so smoothly there has yet to be a threat of water seepage into the northeast corner of the basement.  Forecasts did say that this rain shower could become more than what I was caught in as I checked all corners.  Better to be safe than sorry.

    Fleeting Thoughts:

Today I felt as if I were living in a snow globe.  Multiple times the sun would peek out and in a heartbeat the snow flurries were so dense the view across the street disappeared.

With all the tweaking that went on yesterday in the home it is officially the start of spring house cleaning.  What better way to work the right shoulder that is now finished with physical therapy.  The rest is up to me to strengthen the muscles that were impacted and running the vacuum seemed to be a good fit.  After hitting all the upholstered furniture today and the heating vents and cold air returns the day can be deemed a success with a notice given to the rest of the dust bunnies that are still hiding.

Spring fix ups – ya gotta love them.  An entire day doing things that had been looked at for so long they had become usual and customary.  When the windows are too grimy with a film to see out of them clearly due to winter snows and winds the eye begins to travel to the far corners within the home.   How long had this tangle of computer cords been there? Maybe the load could be lightened on the desk with a bit of rethinking.  A little tweak here and a little tweak there with a full afternoon of extra hands that came with a lot of skill and the home feels like it has been tricked out.  In fact it feels like new digs.   The late spring that brought cold weather today happened for a reason.  Life is sweet on Stauffer.

Dennis needed some parts for his garage and I rode along for a road date.  When we left St. James it was quiet with the sun peeking out.  It was a totally different ride on the way home.  The wind gusts according to the local radio station we were listing to clocked the winds as high as 35 miles per hour.  Even the Ford pickup felt the impact.  With temps of 37 degrees this is really making the remaining snow shrink.
